2008 Government Engineer of the Year, Linda E. De Boldt, P.E.Government Engineer of the Year Recipient

Linda De Boldt is Director of the Engineering Services Branch for Seattle Public Utilities, which includes 190 professionals who implement SPU’s Capital Improvement Program for drinking water, drainage, wastewater, and solid waste projects.

Linda's career began when she earned her BSCE from the University of Washington in 1984. Over the course of her 23 years with the City of Seattle, Linda has led the work on many major projects and programs, including development of the Bridge Seismic Retrofit Program for Seattle, implementation of the Tolt 2 Transmission Pipeline project, and management of the Cedar River Watershed Habitat Conservation Program to restore the watershed’s natural resources and to continue supplying drinking water for the greater Seattle region.

Projects that Linda and SPU’s Engineering Branch are currently implementing, such as the Madison Valley Stormwater Project, the North/ South Transfer Station Projects, and the CSO Control Program, involve innovative modeling, design, contracting and construction strategies along with complex permitting and community coordination. Linda has been an active member of many professional organizations, including ASCE and APWA and is a past president of the City Engineers Association of Washington.

  2. Has led in improving the application of technology for public benefit.
  3. Has actively participated in improving the effectiveness of the engineering profession.
