2008 Young Engineer of the Year, Eric S. Herzstein, P.E.

Eric S. Herzstein, P.E. is a Bridge Engineer with Parsons Transportation Group in Seattle, Washington. He has over six years of structural engineering experience in the design of major interstate and mass transit projects. His experience includes steel and concrete bridge design, tunnel design, retaining wall design, preparation of structural drawing plans, final contract documents, costs estimates and specifications for both design-build design-bid-build, and P3 (Public-Private-Partnership) projects. Currently, he is working on multiple projects including the Highway 1 Gateway Program in Vancouver, BC for the Ministry of Transportation, and the Tacoma, Washington High Occupancy Vehicle project for the Washington State Department of Transportation.

He has been a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) since 2005. Currently, he is the Seattle ASCE Younger Member Forum Treasurer and the chairperson for the Popsicle Stick Bridge contest procurement committee. He has also chaired the ASCE Golf Tournament in both 2006 and 2007 as well as the Popsicle Stick Bridge contest in 2007.

Criteria

  1. The nominee must be under 35 years of age, between three and six years past the date of graduation, with a baccalaureate degree in Engineering, and must be a member of one of the Puget Sound Engineering Council member societies.
  2. The nominee should show professional society participation such as serving as a committee member or officer, or providing support at society meetings or conferences.
  3. The nominee should show progress in professional experience and attainments, and show progress towards or show registration as a professional engineer.
